I purchased this Better Bottle kit and received it in three days! I brewed with it twice now and have made the perfect beers each time! I searched all over the net for a better deal and price and didn’t find it. I highly recommend the product.
We haven’t purchased or brewed our own beer for some time. This easy to do brew is really amazingly easy and it really tastes great. Too bad I only have one brewer. I will keep it busy all year at this rate.
I was born and raised in Germany and this is an excellent German Beer. Add a tbs brown sugar in the keg, let it stand one week longer and you will have an excellent german beer.
Makes a medium dark beer. It’s not a true lager, because the yeast cultures at a higher temp, but it certainly makes a good beer. Small note: I “proofed” the yeast separately in some warm water in the can with leftover mix; ALL the water in a large pot with the mix, brought up to temp, stirred well and then left the wort to cool to ~100 degrees Fahrenheit before pouring into the brew keg and pitching the yeast. It was ready to bottle condition eight days later. Note: I’ve gotten consistently better bottle conditioning when using my “collection” of Grolsch swingtop bottles. Recommended. (Besides, they bottle 16oz instead of 12… )
I am absolutely shocked that this beer is so good. I have not been able to find a beer like this since 1975 at a little gasthaus on top of a hill outside Frankfurt, Germany. Everyone that tried it agreed that it was an amazing beer. Ridiculously amazing beer, let it age an extra week and it is even better!!! Don’t go through all of the complicated steps others suggest, just follow the instructions, give it an extra week and you to will be amazed at the quality and flavor of this beer…we added a 1/2 cup of sugar in the ferminter in one batch for extra alcohol and well…watch out, it had quite a kick!
I have serious concerns about mash tuns when i see products like this. One being that white PVC pipe is only designed for cold use applications only. There is a tan or beige CPVC pipe that is designed for hot use. Some of the other review stated that the pvc pieces came apart. I am guessing that is due to heat being applied to a product that is not designed for heat. I also have concerns about the chemicals being leached out of the plastic cooler and PVC pipe. I just don’t know if using these materials that are not food grade plastics are safe for use with the high heat combination involved with home brewing.
I received a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas from my brother. I have brewed three batches now, and just bottled my fourth last night. I may never buy beer from a store again! the process is simple (even I can follow it) and I’ve not had anything less than a great tasting beer….have had the West Coast Pale Ale, Vienna wit beer, the Canadian lager; all were super! The only thing I’d really like to do is bottle the 12 oz glass bottles instead of plastic liter bottles; which I will do some day. Great stuff!
Being that I live in Chicago and these are shipped from WI, I get my order the next day every time I order from Mr. Beer. The 3-pack is a great deal and they are fresh items as well. I wish they did a 3-pack for premium.
I had a different brand beer maker but the fermentation tank was so inferior it leaked after only a few batches and the beer soured during the process. So far, I’ve made three batches with the Mr. Beer and all have been perfect. I’ve already received my second three pack and am about to start the fourth batch. This kit is easy to use and makes great beer if you just follow the directions precisely. I definitely recommend Mr. Beer for anyone who wants to brew their own and at a price that is less than what you pay for commercial beer. Prices at Amazon are below the price you pay if you go direct to the manufacturer.
As a new homebrewer PET carboy has no meaning to me. The picture gives the deception of two glass carboys. The shipping wieght is maybe 6-10 pounds max ,not 95. Beware!!! Everything else in the kit is up to my expectations, what got me was the amount they jacked me on shipping to make an extra buck.
This book is written in simple language so even a non-gardener can plan there own herb garden for brewing. Covers everything from choosing the herbs right up to final harvest and brewing. Includes recipes recommended for first time herbal brewing. Also contains contact information for obtaining special herbs and materials.
I enjoyed it and I do not enjoy reading most books.
Chances are that if you are buying this book, you are trying to grow your own hops.
If that’s the case, I suggest you save your cash and just go to listen to a podcast by The Brewing Network. I bought this book wanting to plant hops and everything in the book about hops was covered by a few different podcasts available on The BN.
If you want to grow and malt barley, in addition to growing hops, this book is what you are looking for.
I have to say this kit is cheap and very easy to install and use. However, I found two fundamental design flaws that eventually resulted in me tearing it out of my MLT and buying a steel braid. The first problem is the PVC pipes separate very easily; twice I had a pipe fall out, and grain got into the system and clogged everything. I suppose you could find some food-grade adhesive and fix that issue… I also got stuck sparges from the system even when it held together. I suppose you could use some rice hulls to fix that issue….
But at some point, why not spend $30 more and do it right the first time?
Finally, an easy to use and inexpensive mash tun. I’ve been all grain brewing for about 5 years now and I’ve used several different mash tuns. This kit is the best I have ever seen and at a great price. Now my mashing is done all at the same temperature and I have had the best beer I’ve ever made.

This book had a totally different approach to home-brewing.
One that should be appreciated by any amateur gardener.

This is an inspiring book! My hops are planted…barley’s next. The writing isn’t too technical – very clear and easy to understand.
